#4 The End of a Wonderful Trip

Image
Blogger just does some things that just don't make sense. This was the first pic I loaded and it should be the last one in this blog but alas, not to be. We took a cab from Pearson Airport across the road to Four Points Sheridan where we always stay with the grumpiest driver imaginable. When I was shocked at it being $25, he suggested we could have walked!!! And you have a nice day!!! We had a lovely dinner downstairs and then heading back to the elevators I saw this woman filling all of these bags with stuff. I had to stop and ask her what she was doing. She was preparing bags for the 90 immigrants coming to the hotel that night. The night before she had prepared for 120. How wonderful that people like this and hotel chains such as this are working to make immigrants feel welcome in this great land of ours!!! I offered to help her but she said she already had a partner so I went to bed instead. Exhausted.... Here are my lovely knitters. So proud of the scarves they have made and s...

#3 Hurricane Nicole, Yogurt, Scarves and the Non Fishing Trip

The storm started on Tues. with increasing winds. Wednesday morning was increased winds and rain. I had been following the storm on two sites. They indicated that the eye of the hurricane would pass over us by 6ish Wed. night. At about 2:45 in the afternoon, the rain was pelting down and everything was blowing around. It did indeed get quieter around 6 but at 8:30 the wind sounded like thunder. I had imagined that going into the eye and coming out the other side would be similar but oh no!!! Coming out was horrible. The windows of our house are all hurricane glass. The house is well built but the noise from outside was deafening. It was miraculous that we didn't loose hydro or internet. I figured the best plan was to go to bed and see if I woke in the morning.... By Thursday morning the rain had finally stopped. Wednesday night it was pouring in under our front door and we were trying to staunch the flow with rugs and towels piled up. Quite the scene.... We went down to the beach t...

#2 Gas, Fishing, Church and Hurricane Nicole

The week's fun began with getting the car filled with gas for the first time. I pull in and figure out how to open the gas cap trap door when a young lady comes along and I ask her to fill it up please. She frowns at me and then says that I need to make a deposit. A deposit? I'm not trying to buy a house, I'm simply trying to fill the car with gas. She asks me how much that will be and I explain that I have no idea as I've never filled this car before. She suggests I put down a deposit of $30 and we'll see how far that goes. Well it didn't fill it so I gave her another $50 and that was too much. I can't begin to count the number of times this very helpful young woman went back and forth to the money monger in the building. When we were finished I asked if I should tip her and she said yes. I'm sure I didn't give her enough and promise to do better next time!!! Hope you get to read the blog and I will see you later this week!!! Thank you so much for y...
